Remember like 85 posts ago I told you I was going to be making a fun Christmas craft with my Mamo? Well we FINALLY finished. It took a few weekends of glue, macaronis, PATIENCE and good ideas. We started out with 2 (I only have a picture of the 1st one, the 2nd one is SO much better, but hasn't had the finishing paint touches done, pictures will be posted when it has) styrophoam tree-shaped objects. My Mamo was in a women's club. When their husbands were off travelling or working or in some cases, fighting the war, they would get together and make things. Is that not just so fun!?!? I would love to have a group of girls that met once a week/every couple weeks/month to have an outlet for their creativity! I know I need one or else my house ends up with 800 holes in the walls as a result from me moving something I've hung 15 minutes before because I find somewhere else I think it looks cute (sidenote - this drives my mister NUTS! you'd think I was plucking out his toenails he hates it so much!) Anyways, they made these macaroni Christmas trees and sold them for charity. My Mamo's trees were SO good that Neimans asked her to make one for their store! She was originally THRILLED to have the honor, until they told her they wanted it 10 feet tall. And then she thankfully declined. And you will see why when I show you this picture. Because it would've taken her til the following Christmas to get it done. Now, mind you, this is my FIRST attempt, my second is MUCH better and well I'll let the picture speak for itself ... (and the "look! there I am!" is referring to my reflection in the mirror, not the tree speaking)
When we started we were trying to glue the macaronis on the slippery styrophoam. They were NOT havin' it. So then my clever Mamo got the idea to cover the styrophoam (I have no idea if I'm spelling this right, why oh WHY doesn't blogger have spell check!?! And if it does, someone tell me where to find it!) with paper and THEN glue the boogers on. And it WORKED! Which was a good thing because MAN was I about to get frustrated as all GET OUT and throw all the macaronis in a pot and make me lunch! I can't wait to post the picture of the other one. It has gold beads wrapped around it, a gold star stuck in the top (which this one will have eventually as well) and a MUCH better pattern. But I'm pretty proud of this little guy, being my first one and all. Plus I like the curly macaronis. I think it looks like tree branches. So there you go. There is my attempt and Christmas craftyness. When I'm done I'm going to place them on a mirrored glass thing or possibly put greenery around the bottom. We'll see.
Oh and PS - If you're reading this, and you haven't yet, and you want to give me a Christmas present, deck my halls and be a follower, fa la la la la, la la la la :0)
That is amazing! I probably would have flipped out due to lack of patience. Haha :) It looks great!!
